About
History
OxAIMPHEM was founded in 2023 by a group of students passionate about the acute and critical care specialties and combines a number of previous societies to bring together those interested in these areas of medicine. The committee was formed in early 2023, with an aim to start events with the commencement of the new academic year in Summer 2023.
Who We Are
Meet (most of!) the 2023-2024 committee!
Alexander Twist
President
I’m Alex, a final year grad-entry student with interest across the range of critical and acute-care specialties, research, and organ donation. Before studying medicine I worked as a research chemist and also worked for some time as an ambulance crew. I’m the current president of OxAIMPHEM and super excited by the momentum it’s gaining. Outside of medicine I enjoy bouldering, playing guitar, and painting miniatures.
Karyna Atha
Secretary
I’m Karyna, a third year grad-entry student. I am particularly interested in anesthetics and intensive care medicine. I am OxAIMPHEM’s secretary. So it is my job to oversee logistics and ensure all things run smoothly! Outside of medicine, I enjoy deep-sea diving, painting, and listening to true crime podcasts!
Anthony Morris
Treasurer
I’m Ant, a second year grad-entry student with a particular interest in emergency and pre-hospital emergency medicine. It’s my job to make sure Alex doesn’t get too excited and spend all our money… I used to work on international crises as a civil servant, and these days spend much of my free time volunteering for the ambulance service and supporting local refugees, or by swimming, playing squash and going on hikes!
Emily Hoyle
Events Coordinator
I'm Emily, a final year student with an interest in emergency medicine as well as pre-hospital and remote care. Within the society I'm responsible for working with the subject reps to put on talks and events. Outside of medicine I spend a lot of time playing and watching football, running and attempting to learn Spanish.
Will Roberts
Training Officer
I'm Will ®… wow I've not been called that since primary school. I'm a final year undergrad student with particular interest in acute care and organ donation. In previous years I have volunteered with WeAreDonors and in a volunteer-run recovery centre in the night time economy. Outside of medicine, I enjoy tinkering with old cars and small models of trains and aeroplanes, and I am a world ranked Tiddlywink player.
Will McClune
Academic Officer
I’m Will (M), a final year grad-entry med student with interests spanning OxAIMPHEMS four disciplines as well as in neurotrauma, sports medicine and ethics. As the academic officer I’m in charge of running our journal club and managing our project matching bulletin. Outside of medicine I’m a keen climber and (Osler) basketball player.
Sarah Coffey
Outreach Officer
I’m Sarah, a 5th year medical student. I’m the outreach officer of OxAIMPHEMS. Outside of medicine I enjoy painting and playing the piano.
Tabitha Thornton-Swan
Lead for Anaesthetics
Ella Harrison
Lead for Intensive Care
Tabitha Pring
Lead for Prehospital Emergency Medicine
Website Management
I’m Tabitha, a fifth year medical student at Oxford. I’m the lead for Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine and manage our website. I’m interested in all aspects of urgent care, particularly in the prehospital environment and the integration between primary and urgent care. When I’m not attending placement, I can be found working at 111 as a Call Handler, crocheting or doing pole sports.
Katerina Gramm
Lead for Emergency Medicine
Social Media Management
I’m Kat, a final year med student here at Oxford. I’m the lead for Emergency Medicine in the society, and also take care of the social media (@OxAIMPHEM). Aside from medicine, I love hiking, swimming and cooking!
